"No matter how much I exercised or dieted I still
had stubborn pockets of fat on my outer thighs and inner knees. I am
very pleased with my liposuction results!"
—C.C. (age 27)
Who is a Candidate?
There are any number of reasons to consider liposuction. Maryland women and men choose this procedure to remove excess fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. It is an ideal way to create a slimmer and better-proportioned body contour.
If you are near normal weight or have a specific problem area and desire contour changes, liposuction offers a permanent improvement in the contour and proportion of the treated areas. Commonly treated areas
include thighs, hips, abdomen, saddlebags, upper arms, inner knees, ankles and under the chin. Men most often seek to improve the appearance of their love handles or abdomen, and liposuction can be used for male breast reduction.

Maryland Liposuction in Frederick
The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, with general anesthesia for safety and comfort. Tumescent solution is used to swell the fat cells and constrict the blood vessels prior to beginning
suctioning. The tumescent technique also speeds the recovery, minimizes bleeding and bruising, and improves the overall result of liposuction for Maryland patients. Small suction tubes called cannulas are inserted through incisions placed in inconspicuous locations. The surgery proceeds rapidly with most procedures lasting less than one hour. At the conclusion of the procedure, you will be placed in a support garment to help minimize
swelling and bruising, and to permit the skin to shrink down after removal of the fat. Other popular procedures that can be combined with liposuction include tummy tuck, thigh lift, and breast augmentation in Maryland.
Recovery Time
A return to work in 3 to 7 days is normal following liposuction in Maryland. Any swelling and bruising usually subsides within two to four weeks, and many of our patients are in bathing suits showing off their new body after only four weeks. The final result continues to improve for up to three months or more.
Your Result

Liposuction FAQ's
- Does the fat come back?
Yes and no. There is always a safety layer of fat left behind after the
liposuction. It is very unattractive to liposuction so severely that
the skin sticks to the outer covering of the muscle. That safety layer
of fat as well as areas not liposuctioned can gain some weight back
with extreme weight gain. We strongly recommend that our Maryland liposuction patients
maintain a balanced diet and exercise program following surgery to
maintain their results.
- I've tried dieting, but that just doesn't work for me. Is liposuction an answer?
No. When the limit for safe liposuction is between five and ten pounds
for each surgery, this is obviously an extremely expensive way of
losing weight, and under those circumstances it is neither appropriate
nor prudent. Liposuction works best for specific problem areas, not for an overall
weight reduction.
- What are some areas women commonly choose for liposuction in Maryland?
The most common are the saddlebags, the hips, the abdomen,
inner thighs, knees, ankles and sometimes under the chin. Some of these
areas do extremely well; others less so. The skin of the inner thigh
area does have as much elasticity as other areas and cannot be
liposuctioned aggressively. But even a modest liposuction is enough to stop
the upper portion of the legs from rubbing together giving a very
satisfactory improvement.
- What are the most common areas to be treated with liposuction for males?
Men essentially only have two areas - the abdomen and the love handles.
Once men pass the age of forty, these are extremely difficult areas to
get under control with diet and exercise alone while responding
exceptionally well to liposuction.
- How quickly can I get back to work?
For patients who have a single area liposuctioned and whose job is
relatively sedentary, many people can get by with a stretched
weekendessentially a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Monday they will
not be functioning at full speed, but can easily get by during this
period of time. For those who have several areas treated, the recovery will be somewhat
longer with return to work in about 1 week. Swelling and bruising
will subside within the first month with the final results evident in
3 to 6 months.
- How long do I have to wear the support garment?
The support garment that we put on at the time of the surgery is a
little bit more visible under clothing than some of the things you
might purchase for yourself. Most people will only wear the heavy
support garment for the first four or five days. After that, you may
change to clothing that has a very high spandex contentdefinitely
something that is more supportive than pantyhose. Biking shorts or
spandex exercise shorts that are nice and snug certainly will provide
the type of support that is necessary until the body finishes absorbing
the residual fat, achieving its optimal size and contour. We generally
recommend that some level of support be worn for a full month after the
surgery.
