Media :: Cohesive gel implants
Many women are learning the benefits of the cohesive gel breast implants. Frederick patients who choose breast enlargement or breast reconstruction using implants can benefit from this innovative new implant technology. Cohesive gel implants are now available at Plastic Surgery One, a leader in all types of plastic
surgery, serving Virginia, and Washington DC, and Maryland breast augmentation patients.
Ready to learn more about today's breast implants? Frederick plastic surgeon Dr. Donald Kress is available to help. At Plastic Surgery One, he is helping women achieve their cosmetic goals. Request a consultation with Dr. Kress at his office on Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.
The Ideal Implant
If scientists were to create the ideal breast implant, what would it be like?
- It should be soft and natural.
- It should be able to be placed in what experts consider to be the most natural position; above the muscle.
- It should be "shape stable" – able to maintain the designed shape and projection. This is especially important for women with small breasts as it allows them to achieve a more natural look.
- It should have minimal risk of hardening or capsule formation which causes wrinkles.
- It should be available for all breast procedures including primary augmentation, replacement implants, and reconstructive procedures.
- Last and most important, it should allow you to be free from worries about rupture or leakage of fluids into the surrounding tissues.
When these standards are applied to both saline implants and
FDA-approved silicone implants, the results are not perfect. Saline
implants are available for primary augmentation but must be used under
the muscle for an attractive result. They have an increased incidence of wrinkles and capsules,
are definitely not shape stable and are only "natural" looking for some
patients. Silicone gel implants that are currently approved for widespread use have a reduced risk of
wrinkles, a more natural feel and can be used above the muscle.
However, they are not shape stable, and do have possible problems with rupture and leakage, leading the FDA to recommend periodic MRI screenings to detect "silent rupture."
Cohesive Gel Breast Implants - Frederick, Maryland
Now for the good news there is a new breast implant made with cohesive silicone gel that very well may become the ideal implant of choice for women across the country.
Cohesive silicone gel implants have all the advantages of the traditional
silicone implant but eliminate the two biggest problems of rupture and
leakage. These new implants are approved by the FDA for clinical
trial and can be used in all applications including primary
augmentation. Early reports from Europe indicate a dramatic reduction
in the incidence of hardness. Additionally, these implants are the first truly
"shape stable" implants, creating a more natural augmentation, especially for
small breasts.
The cohesive gel implants chemically cross-link the silicone in the body of the
implant resulting in an extremely stable and durable implant which is
nearly impossible to rupture. If you cut a cohesive gel implant in
half the two sides just sit there, nothing leaks.
We are very proud that Dr. Kress has been named as one of only a handfull of investigators in the US for these new breast implants. Frederick women considering breast augmentation should keep in mind that he is the
only named investigator in the states of Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

enter the study. This implant is so impressive that the OR nurses who
have seen this implant are scheduling themselves to have their old
implants replaced with the new ones.
